MANILA, Philippines — Creation of jobs that is productive and delivers a fair income is the focus of the Aquino administration, Vice President Jejomar Binay told top employers in the country yesterday.
In his keynote address during the 32nd National Conference of Employers in Pasay, organized by the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP), Binay said that the government is focused on improving the quality of jobs even as it aims to increase job availability in the country.
“In working to alleviate poverty Govt. Jobs in the Philippines, the government is rightly concerned with setting an environment conducive to job creation. But more than the number of jobs we need to create, we desire to improve the quality of jobs that can be offered to our countrymen,” Binay said.
“In creating employment, we must be mindful of what it means to have decent work,” the Vice President said.
“It involves opportunities for work that is productive and delivers a fair income; provides security in the workplace and social protection for workers and their families; offers better prospects for personal development and encourages social integration; gives people the freedom to express their concerns, to organize and participate in decisions that affect their lives; and guarantees equal opportunities and equal treatment for all,” he added.
The Vice President said that the International Labor Organization (ILO) defines decent work as “productive work for women and men in the conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity.”
